The topic of the next Speakers’ Corner discussion is Finland in Europe and in the world

Ambassador of Finland to the United States Mikko Hautala will join the Speakers’ Corner discussion on April 12 in Turku.

Mikko Hautala started his diplomatic career in Ukraine by working as Attaché at the Finnish embassy in Kyiv. Before Washington, Hautala served as the Finnish ambassador to Russia for four years. The event will be led by Markku Jokisipilä, the Director of the Centre for Parliamentary Studies, and will discuss the European foreign and security policy in a changing world, Finland’s experiences with the NATO membership application process, and the effects of Finland’s NATO membership on the security of Europe as a whole. The war in Ukraine, Russia’s position in the new Europe and China’s role in the new world order are also topics of the discussion.

– The Speakers’ Corner discussions offer a taster for the early autumn forum. It’s great that we get distinguished guests to the Europe Forum events even outside the actual forum, comments Matti Niemi, the Chair of Eurooppa-Foorumi Turussa ry.

The recording of the discussion can be found on Youtube. The discussion is in Finnish.

The first Speakers’ Corner discussion of 2023 with Prime Minister Sanna Marin can also be found on Youtube.

The Europe Forum 2023 will be held from August 30 to September 1 in Turku. The preliminary program will be announced here on the Europe Forum’s website in May.
