Finland\u2019s leading European policy event, the Europe Forum, will once again bring together decision-makers,\u00a0experts\u00a0and citizens in Turku on 26\u201328 August 2026. Registration is now open for some of the most interesting discussions of early autumn.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Europe Forum speaker lineup once again features an exceptionally strong group of EU decision-makers, ministers, leading researchers and influential figures from the international business community.\u00a0Over the course of three days, the\u00a0programme\u00a0includes more than 50 discussions and 200 speakers addressing topical social and European issues. More than 1,000 participants have already registered to attend in person.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Current policy directions and future outlooks will be explored by, among others, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission\u00a0<\/span>Henna Virkkunen<\/span><\/b>, Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering\u00a0<\/span>Joakim Strand<\/span><\/b>,\u00a0<\/span>Timo Pesonen<\/span><\/b>, Director-General of the European Commission\u2019s Directorate-General for\u00a0Defence\u00a0Industry and Space,\u00a0<\/span>Hiski\u00a0Haukkala<\/span><\/b>, Director of the Finnish Institute of International Affairs, and\u00a0<\/span>Anna-Kaisa Itkonen<\/span><\/b>, spokesperson for energy and climate affairs at the European Commission. Members of the European Parliament travelling to Turku include\u00a0<\/span>Mika Aaltola<\/span><\/b>,\u00a0<\/span>Li Andersson<\/span><\/b>,\u00a0<\/span>Eero\u00a0Hein\u00e4luoma<\/span><\/b>,\u00a0<\/span>Anna-Maja Henriksson<\/span><\/b>,\u00a0<\/span>Ville Niinist\u00f6<\/span><\/b>,\u00a0<\/span>Maria\u00a0Ohisalo<\/span><\/b>,\u00a0<\/span>Sirpa Pietik\u00e4inen<\/span><\/b>,\u00a0<\/span>Aura Salla<\/span><\/b>,\u00a0<\/span>Pekka\u00a0Toveri<\/span><\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Sebastian Tynkkynen<\/span><\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Europe Forum will once again bring a\u00a0significant number\u00a0of international guests to Turku, with leading foreign researchers, civil society figures and business leaders offering perspectives on global developments and prospects.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ulla M\u00fcller<\/span><\/b>, Head of the Nordic Office of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), will bring perspectives on global development and equality to Turku. Social sustainability will be explored by\u00a0<\/span>Marie Moran<\/span><\/b>, Associate Professor at University College Dublin in Ireland, the country holding the EU Council Presidency. International solutions for the circular economy and the green transition in industry will be presented by\u00a0<\/span>Stefan Breitenbach<\/span><\/b>, Project Manager at the Port of Hamburg in Germany, and\u00a0<\/span>Claus Runge<\/span><\/b>, Chief Sustainability Officer at pharmaceutical giant Bayer AG. One of the keynote speakers at this year\u2019s Turku Climate Forum,\u00a0organised\u00a0as part of the Europe Forum, will be\u00a0<\/span>Philippe Froissard<\/span><\/b>, Head of Unit at the European Commission.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Europe Forum will take place at the Turku City Theatre on 26\u201328 August. The event is free of charge and open to everyone, and participants can either attend in person or follow the\u00a0programme\u00a0live online.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

No advance registration is\u00a0required\u00a0to\u00a0participate\u00a0online.\u00a0Programme\u00a0sessions in Finnish and Swedish will be simultaneously interpreted into English in real time, ensuring that the forum is accessible to an international audience as well.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Eurooppa-fooruminSpeakers\u2019 Corner invites the public to\u00a0Hansakortteli\u00a0on 27 August<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

The Europe Forum also invites the\u00a0general public\u00a0to take part in Speakers\u2019 Corner, which will be held at\u00a0Hansatori\u00a0in\u00a0Hansakortteli\u00a0on Thursday, 27 August, from 2 to 5 p.m. Turun Sanomat will also broadcast the event live on its website.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0programme\u00a0will include, for example, views from Members of the European Parliament\u00a0<\/span>Ville Niinist\u00f6<\/span><\/b>,\u00a0<\/span>Li\u00a0Andersson<\/span><\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Aura Salla<\/span><\/b>. Young people\u2019s perspectives on the future of Europe will be presented by\u00a0<\/span>Eetu Hakulinen<\/span><\/b>, Chair of the P-klubi, and\u00a0<\/span>Alma Jokinen<\/span><\/b>, Finland\u2019s EU Delegate for\u00a0Nuorisoala\u00a0ry. The role of the media as a pillar supporting functioning democracy will be discussed by\u00a0<\/span>Rami Nieminen<\/span><\/b>, Editor-in-Chief of Turun Sanomat,\u00a0<\/span>Laura Saarikoski<\/span><\/b>, Secretary General of the Helsingin\u00a0Sanomain\u00a0S\u00e4\u00e4ti\u00f6\u00a0Foundation, and radio journalist\u00a0<\/span>Harri Moisio<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The moderator will be Professor\u00a0<\/span>Markku\u00a0Jokisipil\u00e4<\/span><\/b>, Chair of the Board of the Schuman Society and Director of the Centre for Parliamentary Studies at the University of Turku. \"EU-nuorisodelegaattiExercise, quizzes and music alongside the Europe Forum<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

In addition to the official programme, a range of side events will be organised as part of the Europe Forum. On Friday, 28 August, the Swedish Consulate in Turku will organise the <\/span>God\u00a0morgon\u00a0\u00c5bo<\/span><\/i>\u00a0morning run. The run will start at 7:30 a.m. in front of the Turku City Theatre, and\u00a0participants can choose to walk or run according to their fitness level. The route will return to the starting point. There is no participation fee, making this a refreshing way to start the forum day. After the run, participants are also invited to a\u00a0<\/span>kaffe\u00a0och fika<\/span><\/i>\u00a0gathering outside the theatre.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On the opening day of the forum, 26 August, the Representation of the European Commission in Finland invites everyone interested in quizzes to test their knowledge of Europe at the Arvo neighborhood restaurant from 7 p.m. onwards. At Bar Kuka, the evening will continue at 7:30 p.m. with\u00a0<\/span>Levyraati<\/span><\/i>, an event exploring the worlds of music and EU themes. Since 2007, Bar Kuka\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>Levyraati<\/span><\/i>\u00a0has regularly brought together a panel to review songs suggested by the audience, and now it will be the turn of the Europe Forum\u2019s distinguished panel to serve as the judges.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
